“If you can’t tell the difference between
real and fake — can you really call it fake?”
That line from The Art of Sarah (레이디 두아)
stayed with me long after the final episode ended.
And I think it will stay with you too.
What Is The Art of Sarah?
The Art of Sarah — known in Korea as
Lady Dua (레이디 두아) — is an 8-episode
mystery thriller that premiered on Netflix
on February 13, 2026.
Set against the glittering backdrop of
Cheongdam-dong, Seoul’s most exclusive
luxury shopping district, the series follows
Sarah Kim (played by Shin Hye-sun) — the
Asia director of a high-end luxury brand
who is shrouded in mystery.
Everyone knows her name.
Nobody has actually met her.
And one day, she becomes the prime suspect
in an unidentified murder case.
Detective Park Mu-kyung (Lee Joon-hyuk),
a relentless investigator, begins to peel
back the layers of her life — and what he
finds is far more complicated than anyone expected.

Inspired By a Real Scandal
The series draws inspiration from a real
luxury goods fraud scandal that shook Korea.
The premise taps into something deeply
uncomfortable: the world of high-end luxury
is built entirely on trust, perception, and
desire. What happens when someone exploits
that system from the inside?
The answer, as The Art of Sarah shows us,
is both thrilling and deeply unsettling.
Shin Hye-sun: This Is Her Show
Let me be direct: this series exists because
of Shin Hye-sun.
She is arguably Korea’s most versatile actress
working right now — with a career spanning
romance, comedy, historical drama, action,
and thriller. She has consistently chosen
challenging roles, and The Art of Sarah
is perhaps her most demanding yet.
In the span of eight episodes, she plays
what feels like multiple different people —
each with a distinct look, energy, and
emotional frequency. The performance has
been described in Korea as a “acting showcase”
— and that’s not an exaggeration.
This is also her first Netflix original series,
and she announced her arrival with authority.
Internationally, The Art of Sarah reached
the global Top 10 non-English series for
two consecutive weeks after its premiere,
entered the Top 10 in 76 countries,
and ranked #1 in 35 countries — including
Korea, Japan, Indonesia, Philippines,
Thailand, Vietnam, and Malaysia.
It also holds an IMDb rating of 7.3.
The Director You Should Know
Director Kim Jin-min is quietly one of the
most important figures in Korean streaming.
This is his fourth Netflix series — following
Extracurricular (2020), My Name, and
Goodbye Earth. He has a distinctive style:
genre packaging with genuine emotional weight.
Where other directors might lean into
spectacle, Kim Jin-min leans into character.
The tension in The Art of Sarah doesn’t come
from explosions or action sequences — it comes
from watching a woman desperately hold together
a life built on fiction, one thread at a time.
The Question at the Heart of It All
Here’s what makes The Art of Sarah more than
just a thriller.
It’s a meditation on luxury, identity, and
the stories we tell about ourselves.
In Cheongdam-dong — Korea’s equivalent of
Beverly Hills or Bond Street — image is
everything. The right handbag. The right title.
The right name. These things open doors that
nothing else can.
Sarah Kim understood this better than anyone.
And the series asks, without ever fully answering:
If someone builds a life with fake materials —
but the result is real — is that person a fraud?
Or are they simply someone who understood
the game better than everyone else?
