Why I Started This Blog — A Regular Korean Uncle’s StoryHello world!

Hey, welcome to KorUncle.com!

I’m just a regular middle-aged guy living in Daegu, South Korea.
Not a celebrity. Not an influencer. Not even close.

I wake up every morning, drink my coffee, complain about the news,
and wonder what’s for dinner. Pretty boring stuff, right?

So why on earth did I start a blog in English?

Honestly? It all started with movies.

I’ve always loved Korean films. Not just the big ones that made it
to Netflix — but the quiet, raw, beautiful ones that most people
outside Korea never get to see. Every time I watched a great Korean
movie, I thought to myself, “I wish more people around the world
could experience this.”

And then there’s Korean culture itself.

Living here my whole life, I sometimes forget how fascinating it
must look from the outside. The food, the traditions, the way
people interact — it’s all so normal to me. But I’ve realized
that “normal” to a Korean uncle can be pretty extraordinary
to someone on the other side of the world.

That’s where this blog comes in.

I’m not here to give you a polished, picture-perfect version
of Korea. You’ve got plenty of travel influencers for that.

I’m here to give you the real thing.

The Korea that exists beyond the tourist spots. The movies that
will make you cry on a Tuesday night. The cultural quirks that
take a lifetime to fully understand — explained by someone who’s
actually lived them.

I’ll be honest with you. My English isn’t perfect. I’m learning
as I go. But I figured — what better way to connect with the
world than to just… try?

So here I am. Your friendly Korean uncle from Daegu, ready to
share a little piece of Korea with you, one post at a time.

Grab a snack. Stay a while. And if you ever have questions about
Korea — anything at all — feel free to reach out. That’s what
uncles are for. 😄

See you in the next post,
Korean Uncle 🇰🇷
